Short answer

Your Google review link is in your Business Profile, under Read reviews, then Get more reviews, where Google gives you a link to copy and a QR code. Copy it once, save it on your phone, and sending it to a customer takes about 10 seconds. This applies to any HVAC, plumbing, electrical, roofing or landscaping company that has a verified Google Business Profile.

Google does not put the review link anywhere a customer would see it. It only shows up inside the tools for the person who manages the profile.

Most owners look for it on their public listing in Google Maps. That page has a button for customers to write a review, but it does not give you a link to share.

The other common problem is the device. Google's own help page says the review QR code can only be made on a computer browser, not on a phone.

Do this once, on a computer if you can, while signed in to the Google account that manages your profile.

  1. 1Open your Business Profile on Google.
  2. 2Select Read reviews.
  3. 3Select Get more reviews.
  4. 4Select Copy to copy the review link.
  5. 5Paste the link into a text or email to yourself so it is on your phone.

These steps match Google's help page on creating a link or QR code to request reviews. If the menu looks different on your account, the same page in Google's Business Profile Help is the place to check.

The slow part is never the text. It is digging for the link while a customer waits in the driveway.

  1. 1Open the text or email you sent yourself on your phone.
  2. 2Copy the review link.
  3. 3Create a new contact named Review Link and paste the link into the notes or website field.
  4. 4Save the review request text below as a note on your phone with the link already in it.
  5. 5Share the same note with every tech who finishes jobs.

When a job is done, the tech opens the note, copies the text, pastes it into a message to the customer and sends it.

How to get the QR code for trucks and invoices

The QR code is for customers who are standing in front of you or holding your paperwork.

  1. 1Sign in on a computer browser.
  2. 2Open your Business Profile and select Read reviews, then Get more reviews.
  3. 3Right-click the QR code.
  4. 4Select Save image as and save the file.
  5. 5Send the file to whoever prints your invoices, leave-behind cards or truck signs.

Google's help page lists receipts, thank you emails and a printed QR code as places to share it. It also says you can send review requests by email, WhatsApp or a Facebook post.

Hi FIRST NAME, this is YOUR NAME from COMPANY. Thanks for having us out today.

If you have a minute, a Google review helps people in TOWN find us. Here is the link: YOUR REVIEW LINK

Rule of thumb

If the customer is still on site, show them the QR code on your phone or the invoice. If not, send the text before you leave the street.

What Google does not allow

Google's help page says reviews must reflect a genuine experience. It says offering incentives in exchange for reviews is strictly prohibited, and that includes free or discounted goods or services.

  • Do not offer a discount or a gift for a review.
  • Do not offer anything to change a review or remove a bad one.
  • Do not write reviews for your own business.

What this will not fix

  • A review link does not make customers leave reviews. Someone still has to send it after every job.
  • The link will not help if your profile is not verified or is suspended.
  • Customers have to be signed in to a Google Account to leave a review, so a few will stop at the sign-in screen.
  • A link alone does nothing for your star rating if the work behind it has problems.

Common questions

Does the review link ever change?

Google does not say on its help page how long a link lasts. If a customer says the link does not open, get a fresh one from Get more reviews and update your saved note.

Can customers without Gmail leave a review?

Yes. Google's help page says customers must be signed in to a Google Account, and they can set one up with an email address that is not Gmail.

Can I make the QR code on my phone?

Not at the moment. Google's help page says review QR codes can only be made on a computer browser, so make it once on a computer and save the image.

Can I put the link on my website?

Yes. A short line near your phone number or on your contact page, with the link behind a button that says leave us a review, works the same way as the text.
